Central Kentucky Riding for Hope
Equine-Assisted Preschool Program

The purpose of CKRH’s Equine-Assisted Preschool Program is to provide services to preschool-aged participants through non-mounted equine-assisted learning activities.  We will utilize our miniature horses for many of the hands-on activities in this learning program. The activities and objectives written by the teacher are designed to develop, increase and reinforce the following target skills:

  1. Fine and gross motor skills
  2. Vocabulary, verbal and non-verbal communication
  3. Body awareness
  4. Integration of the tactile system
  5. Social skills such as listening, turn taking, and conversation
  6. Independence in adaptive skills
  7. Self esteem and acceptance of  temporary separation from parents
  8. Early literacy
  9. Attention span, attending to speaker, task, or specific stimuli
  10. Transitioning from one activity to another

Additional target skills may be added based on the teacher’s assessment of the participants and by parent surveys.  Another goal of this program is for the children to have fun participating in an activity that provides sensory experiences in a group setting.

Each session will last for approximately one hour.  The cost for a five-week program is $125.00.  New participants and their caregivers will be asked to attend a brief orientation and assessment prior to the first class meeting.   If you have questions, feel free to contact Denise Spittler, CKRH Program Director, at 231-7066 or .
