Although Ingrid looks like she should be grazing in a field in Norway, she is originally from Pennsylvania. When she was
only seven months old she arrived at Janet Cameron’s farm. The dun beauty lived at Janet’s for many happy years where
she was ridden as a lesson mount and trained to be a driving horse. Janet donated Ingrid to CKRH in 1998 and she’s
become a star in both the therapeutic riding program and the hippotherapy program.
When she is used as a hippotherapy horse, the sensitive Fjord seems to shift her body so she is centered under her rider
at all times. She stands quietly as her riders do exercises such as quad stands and front to back, and always makes sure that they feel secure and safe. It’s as if she’s thinking, I’ve got to keep my rider centered.
Talented Ingrid has been ridden by students at the Paul Frazer Combined Test and Dressage Show, and she participated
successfully in the Pony Club Horse Trials at Masterson Station Park as part of an independent horse and rider
team. Annie rode Ingrid at the horse trials last year and right in the middle of their show jumping round a violent thunderstorm
rolled in. Ingrid stood still as a statue while jumps standards blew down around her. Ingrid never flinched, says
Annie. What a star!
Ingrid has a strong will to live and has survived two colic surgeries. The instructors say that Ingrid provides comic relief in
lessons because she has such a cute, fun personality!
